Mt. Jiuhua in the southwest of Qingyang County, Anhui Province, is one of the four mountains famous for the Buddhist religion in China and is known as the place where Ksitigarbha performed Buddhist rites to save the souls of the dead, According to Buddhist sutra, Ksitigarbha vowed to save all the souls of the dead before becoming a Buddha .

Mt. Jiuhua boasts of quiet and beautiful landscape, particularly in the peaks, and convenient transportation facilities. It has long been the ideal place for religious followers. In the Han Dynasty (206 B.C.-A.D.220) and Tang Dynasty (618-907), Mt. Jiuhua was once the place for Taoist rites, and Taoism was later merged with and replaced by Buddhism. Mt. Jiuhua becomes the No.1 of the four mountains famous for the Buddhist religion and for its concentrated temples and good preservation of Buddha figures, The well-known temples on the mountain include Tiantai Temple, Ganlu Temple, Huacheng Temple, Hall of the Physical Body, Temple of Longevity and Huiju Temple. All the imposing temples are grand in architecture and exquisite in structure, with upturned eaves and painted pillars.

On Mt£®Jiuhua there are a temperate climate, moist and cool temperature, rich rain fall and distinct four seasons. It is pleasing to both the eye and the mind to enjoy the drizzle in spring, the sea of clouds in summer, the fog in pine woods in autumn, the snow in winter, as well as the first rays of the morning sun and the glow of the setting sun, on the mountain . The high and steep peaks there are like water lilies out of the water when watched in distance and take different shapes when watched nearby. In the woods on the mountain are large number of rare trees, cash plants and rare birds and animals. Da Peng Ting Jing (the roc listens sutra) and Feng Huang Gu Song (Phoenix and ancient pine) are among the very famous scenery.

九华山位于安徽省青阳县西南，是我国四大佛教名山之一，是“地狱未空誓不成佛，众生度尽方证菩提”的大愿地藏王菩萨的道场。它东临太平湖，南依黄山，北眺长江，方圆120平方公里，为黄山支脉，景区面积120平方公里。九华山境内有80余座建筑各异的古刹梵宇，依山就势，攀岩附壁散落在山山岭岭的苍松翠竹之中，其中以甘露寺、化城寺、祗园寺、百岁宫、肉身宝殿、地藏禅林等著名。日日晨钟暮鼓，夜夜诵经念佛，庙堂内庄严肃穆，山道边檀香浮动;令人不难领略“一支清香聊客，万般俗念顿消”的意境。

九华山有99峰，主峰是十王峰海拔1342米。千米以上的山峰有20余座，擎天拔地，高出云表，云海翻腾，各展雄姿，气象万干。险峰多峭壁怪石，天台峰西“大鹏听经石”，传说有大鹏听地藏菩萨诵经而感化成石。观音峰上观音石，酷似观音菩萨凌风欲行。十王峰西有“木鱼石”，钵盂峰有“石佛”，中莲花峰有“罗汉晒肛皮”，南蜡烛峰有“猴子拜观音”等等，惟妙惟肖，越看越奇，耐人寻味。又有幽深岩洞，堆云洞、地藏洞、老虎洞、狮子洞、华严洞、长生洞、飞龙洞、道僧洞等，均为古代僧人居室，清静雅致，极利禅修。

九华山溪水清澈，泉、池、潭、瀑众多。有龙溪、缥溪、舒溪、曹溪、濂溪、澜溪、九子溪等，源于九华山各峰之间，逶迤秀丽，闪现于绿树丛中。龙溪上有五龙瀑，飞泻龙池，喷雪跳玉，极为壮观。又自弄珠潭，激流直下，浪花似珠玉四处乱弹。舒溪三瀑相连，注入上、中、下雪潭，断崖飞帘，如卷雪浪。

九华山山水风景最著者，旧志载有九华十景：天台晓日、化城晚钟、东崖晏坐、天柱仙踪、桃岩瀑布、莲峰云海、平岗积雪、舒潭印月、九子泉声、五溪山色。此外，还有龙池飞瀑、闵园竹海、甘露灵秀、摩空梵宫、花台锦簇、狮子峰林、青沟探幽、鱼龙洞府、凤凰古松等名胜。它因奇峰嵯峨，岩壁嶙峋，飞瀑深潭，谷幽林密而素有“东南第一山”之美称。九华山集佛教文化、自然景观和人文历史为一体的山岳型旅游胜地，1982年被列为全国重点风景名胜区。

1995年10月9日，为了展现中华山河的壮美风貌，邮电部发行了《九华揽胜》特种邮票，全套6枚。
