Both the Golden Camellia and Cannonball Tree Flower on the stamps are evergreen tropical plants bearing luxurious blossoms with a high ornamental value.The Golden Camellia occurs in Guangxi of China, while the Cannonball Tree Flower was introduced from South America to Malaysia in the late 19th century. The issue of the stamps embodies the friendly cooperation between the Chinese and Malaysian Postal Administrations as wel as the friendship between the peoples of the two countries.

中国邮政和马来西亚邮政，于2002年2月5日联合发行一套以“珍稀花卉”为主题的特种邮票，双方使用同一份设计图稿。邮票图案中的“金茶花”和“炮弹花”均为热带常绿木本花卉植物，极具观赏价值。

中方花卉为山茶科金花茶，树高2-5米，树皮淡黄色，叶质光亮深绿，花瓣金黄色，是国家8种一级保护植物之一，素有”植物界的大熊猫”、”茶族皇后”之称。20世纪60年代初，在广西邕宁县潭洛乡采到一种金黄花的山茶科植物标本，经植物学家胡先肃教授鉴定为山茶科的新种，并定名为金花茶，填补了黄色系列茶花的空白点。广西防城金花茶国家级自然保护区地处十万大山的兰山支脉，区内分布有金花茶的3个种和1个变种，是金花茶的分布中心。

马来西亚花卉为原产美洲的玉蕊科炮弹花，十九世纪末引种到马来西亚。
