这套邮票除了通过人物形象反映远古神话的内容外，在画面中还分别出现了石斧、柳枝、弓、长袖、拐杖、石子，以及象征阴阳初开的天地，象征生殖繁盛的鱼、果树，还有金鸟、蟾蜍、太阳、大海等，构成一幅远古万物的图景。此外，中国早期的彩陶、青铜器、漆器、壁画等艺术的格调在这套邮票中均有所呈现。画面色彩深沉而和谐，并用金、银两色加以渲染，增加了这套邮票神奇、庄重的气氛。在人物刻画上，以简洁的线条，形象地表现了人物的动感。票上的文字采用篆体，与古朴的画面相呼应，浑然一体，体现了浓郁的民族特色。在绘画手法上，设计者采用传统的中国画法，又融进现代艺术的风格，人物造型夸张而恰如其分，轮廓韵律优美动人，颇富装饰性和韵律美。
