In 1981, Shanghai Art Film Studio adapted the story of “Deer King Bunsheng” in Cave 257 of Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes into the cartoon “Nine-Colored Deer”. It is directed by Qian Jiajun and Dai Tielang, and Pan Jiezi is the screenwriter. The entire “Nine-Colored Deer” is only 24 minutes long, and the team created and designed more than 200 scenes and painted nearly 20,000 pictures. The film tells the story of a nine-colored deer rescued a drowning snake maker, the greedy queen wanted the fur of the nine-colored deer to make clothes, the king offered a heavy reward, the lustful snake trickster snitched to the king and assisted in the capture of the nine-colored deer, facing the bow and arrow of the king’s army, the nine-colored deer told the story, the king was deeply moved, gave up the capture plan, and the snake trickster eventually drowned and died.
This set of stamps continues the design form of the animated series of stamps, and the picture adopts the color style of Dunhuang murals, and at the same time presents the characteristics of the Goryeo paper line rendering in the original animation film. The first picture shows a nine-colored deer in the deserted Gobi Desert, pointing the way to a lost Persian merchant; The second picture shows the nine-colored deer treating all things kindly, always rescuing animals in desperate situations, creating a carefree and flower-rich animal paradise scene; The third picture shows the scene of the snake collector accidentally falling into the water and being saved by the nine-colored deer on the shore; The fourth picture shows the snake man seeing the profit, snitching on the king, and pretending to fall into the water again, leading the nine-colored deer into the encirclement; The fifth picture shows the scene of the nine-colored deer emitting divine light and turning the sharp arrows shot by the soldiers into ashes.

P.S. 1981年，上海美术电影制片厂根据敦煌莫高窟第257窟中《鹿王本生》的故事，改编成动画片《九色鹿》。由钱家骏、戴铁郎担任导演，潘絜兹任编剧。整个《九色鹿》片长只有24分钟，而团队创作设计了200余个场景，画了近2万张画。该片讲述了一只九色鹿救起一个溺水将死的弄蛇人，贪心的王后欲求九色鹿的毛皮做衣服，国王重金悬赏，利欲熏心的弄蛇人向国王告密并协助抓捕九色鹿，面对国王军队的弓箭，九色鹿述说经过，国王深受感动，放弃了捕捉计划，而弄蛇人最终溺水死亡的故事。
该套邮票延续动画系列邮票的设计形式，画面采用了敦煌壁画的设色风格，同时呈现出动画原片中高丽纸勾线渲染的工笔重彩特点。第一图表现了九色鹿在荒无人烟的戈壁滩，为迷路的波斯商人指点方向的场景；第二图表现了九色鹿善待万物，总是救助陷入绝境的动物,创造了一个无忧无虑、花繁叶茂的动物天堂场景；第三图表现了采药的弄蛇人不慎落水，被九色鹿驮上岸边得救的场景；第四图表现了弄蛇人见利忘义，向国王告密，并假装再次落水，将九色鹿引入包围圈的场景；第五图表现了九色鹿发出神光，将众士兵射出的利箭化为灰烬的场景。
