Antarctica covers an area of about 14,500,000 square kilometers. It is the coldest, driest, most desolate place with the most frequent blizzards in the world. The icecap is the most splendid landscape of Antarctica, reputed as the “white desert”. Along the coast of this magic land live ocean animals such as penguins and seals, and birds. The mysterious Antarctica has become a sacred place for explorations and researches on geosciences.

南极是南极洲和南大洋的总称。面积约1450万平方公里，是世界上最寒冷、最荒漠、最干燥、暴风雪最频繁的地区。南极洲是迄今为止唯一未被污染的最洁净的大陆，在其周边是企鹅、海豹等海洋动物和鸟类栖息繁衍的乐园，冰盖是南极最绮丽的景观。南极的神秘，使得它成为人类探索研究地球科学的圣地。

南极是根据地球旋转方式决定的最南点。它通常表示地理上的南极区域，有一个固定的位置。按照国际上通行的概念，南纬66.5度(南极圈)以南的地区称为南极。
