In May, 1942, Mao Zedong delivered a speech in the rectification movement in Yan’an. Soon Talks at Yan’an Forum on Literature and Art was published. In this talk, he summarized the fundamental historical experience in the development of literature and art since the revolution on 4 May, 1919. Taking the actual conditions in base area into consideration, he proposed literature and art should serve the workers, peasants and soldiers in our country which directed the development of proletarian literature and art work.
