舞剧《白毛女》是上海舞蹈学校根据同名歌剧创作的，于1967年5、6月间在北京参加汇演。

这套邮票共4枚。
编53，8分，图案为《喜儿》。画面是剧中“扎红头绳”一场戏中喜儿形象。
编54，8分，图案为《盼东方出红日》。
编55，8分，图案为《愤怒诉说》。描写喜儿未婚夫前来营救她时，她诉说深仇大恨的情景。
编56，8分，图案为《喜儿参军》。画面是成长为八路军战士的喜儿的艺术形象。

1973年3月6日，中共中央批准国务院、中央军委的报告，决定恢复邮电部；同年6月1日，邮电部恢复。本套邮票是邮电部恢复后发行的第一套邮票。
