Modern Chinese literature originated from the May Fourth Movement. These literary figures are inheritors and promoters of the May‑Fourth spirit and founders of modern‑era Chinese literature. Their timeless works have shaped the spiritual outlook, literary ideals and aesthetic tastes of generations of Chinese people. They have nourished the Chinese nation and contributed splendid chapters to world civilisation.
Lu Xun (1881‑1936), born Zhou Shuren, courtesy name Yucai, was from Shaoxing, Zhejiang. He was a modern‑era Chinese writer, thinker and revolutionary. He studied in Japan from 1902, then abandoned medicine for literature. As a founder of modern Chinese literature, his writings carry sharp critical spirit and deep humanistic concern, covering essays, fiction, prose and translations totalling about ten million characters, exerting profound influence on Chinese culture after the May Fourth Movement.
Guo Moruo (1892‑1978), born Guo Kaizhen, courtesy name Dingtang, was born in Shawan, Leshan, Sichuan. He was an encyclopedic cultural giant, modern‑era writer, poet and translator. He was elected Chairman of All‑China Federation of Literary and Art Circles in 1949 and later held important official posts. He laid the foundation for modern Chinese new‑style poetry with The Goddess and pioneered modern‑era Chinese historical drama represented by Qu Yuan.
Mao Dun (1896‑1981), born Shen Dehong, courtesy name Yanbing, was from Tongxiang, Zhejiang. As a forerunner of the May‑Fourth New‑Culture Movement, novelist, critic and literary theorist, he edited The Short‑Story Monthly, a key platform for new‑style literature. His landmark novel Midnight established the social‑analysis fiction paradigm for Chinese realism. After 1949 he served as first Minister of Culture. The Mao Dun Literature Prize was created by Chinese Writers Association in 1981 to encourage literary creation.
Ba Jin (1904‑2005), born Li Yaotang, courtesy name Feigan in Chengdu, Sichuan, was a modern‑era writer, translator and publisher. He took important positions in national literary organisations and was awarded the honorary title “People’s Writer” by the State Council in November 2003. His representative works include the “Love Trilogy”, “Torrent Trilogy”, Random Thoughts and Cold Nights.
Lao She (1899‑1966), of Manchu ethnicity, born Shu Qingchun, courtesy name Sheyu in Beijing, was a novelist and playwright. He was the first Chinese writer honoured as “People’s Artist” after 1949. A productive real‑ist master of colloquial literary language, his major works include Four Generations Under One Roof, Rickshaw Boy and the play Teahouse.
Cao Yu (1910‑1996), born Wan Jiabao with ancestral roots in Qianjiang, Hubei, is the towering founding master of modern‑era Chinese spoken‑drama theatre. His milestone plays include Thunderstorm, Sunrise, The Wilderness and Peking Man. After 1949 he held leading posts in drama institutions and cultivated generations of theatre talents for China.
The stamp set adopts traditional Chinese ink‑wash painting blended with western figurative art techniques. Portraits render the distinct bearing of each writer with gradated ink shades. Specially‑mixed spot inks create a retro‑elegant tone. Background vignettes show excerpts from representative works of each author.

鲁迅(1881—1936),原名周树人,字豫才,浙江绍兴人。中国现代文学家、思想家和革命家。1902年赴日本留学,后弃医从文。鲁迅是中国现代文学的奠基人,其作品忧愤深广,有着强烈的批判精神与人文关怀,包括杂文、小说、论文、散文、翻译作品等约一千万字,对“五四运动”后的中国文化产生了深刻影响。
郭沫若(1892—1978),原名郭开贞,字鼎堂,笔名沫若,生于四川乐山沙湾。郭沫若是百科全书式的文化巨匠,是中国现代文学家、诗人、翻译家。1949年当选全国文联主席,后任国务院副总理兼文化教育委员会主任、中国科学院院长等。郭沫若是中国新诗奠基人,开创并引领了一代诗风,代表诗集《女神》是中国新诗史上一座不可磨灭的丰碑。郭沫若也是中国历史剧的重要开创者,代表历史剧《屈原》,是我国现代历史剧的经典之作。
茅盾(1896—1981),原名沈德鸿,字雁冰,生于浙江桐乡。中国现代小说家、文学评论家与文艺理论家。茅盾是五四新文化运动的先驱者之一,是五四文坛重要的批评家,其主持的《小说月报》是新文学的重要阵地。代表作《子夜》是最负盛名的长篇小说,开创了社会剖析派小说的经典范式,是中国现实主义小说的里程碑,对后来的长篇小说创作影响深远。新中国成立后,茅盾担任文化部首任部长、中国文联副主席、中国作协主席等职。1981年,中国作家协会设立茅盾文学奖,以推动社会主义文学事业的繁荣。
巴金(1904—2005),四川成都人,原名李尧棠,字芾甘。中国现代作家、翻译家、出版家。1949年出席第一次全国文代会,当选文联常委。后担任上海市文联副主席、中国作家协会主席、全国文联副主席。2003年11月,被国务院授予“人民作家”荣誉称号。代表作有“爱情三部曲”、“激流三部曲”、《随想录》和《寒夜》等。
老舍(1899—1966),满族,原名舒庆春,字舍予,生于北京。老舍是中国现代小说家、剧作家。新中国第一位获得“人民艺术家”称号的作家。曾任中国文联副主席、中国作家协会副主席、北京市文联主席。他是一位多产的现实主义作家,他的作品多用朴素、凝练、口语化的语言写就,鲜明生动,妙趣横生,充满着强烈的时代精神和浓郁的生活气息,被誉为语言大师。代表作有《四世同堂》《骆驼祥子》《茶馆》等。
曹禺(1910—1996),原名万家宝,祖籍湖北潜江。曹禺是中国现代话剧的泰斗与奠基人,也是现代话剧艺术的一座高峰。代表作有《雷雨》《日出》《原野》《北京人》《家》等。新中国成立后,曾任中央戏剧学院副院长、北京人民艺术剧院院长、中国文联主席、中国剧协主席等职,作为卓越的戏剧教育家,曹禺为新中国培养了一批批戏剧人才,为我国艺术教育事业作出重要贡献。

Lu Xun (1881‑1936), nacido Zhou Shuren, nombre cortesía Yucai, natural de Shaoxing, Zhejiang. Escritor, pensador y revolucionario chino moderno. Estudió en Japón desde 1902 y abandonó la medicina para dedicarse a la literatura. Fundador de la literatura moderna china, su obra posee fuerte espíritu crítico y profunda preocupación humanista, con ensayos, novelas, prosas y traducciones de unos diez millones de caracteres, influyendo profundamente en la cultura china después del Movimiento del Cuatro de Mayo.
Guo Moruo (1892‑1978), nacido Guo Kaizhen, nombre cortesía Dingtang, nacido en Shawan, Leshan, Sichuan. Gigante cultural enciclopédico, escritor, poeta y traductor. En 1949 fue elegido presidente de la Federación Nacional de Literaturas y Artes, ocupando posteriormente altos cargos oficiales. Fundó la poesía nueva china con su obra La Diosa y fue pionero del drama histórico moderno representado por Qu Yuan.
Mao Dun (1896‑1981), nacido Shen Dehong, nombre cortesía Yanbing, natural de Tongxiang, Zhejiang. Pionero del Movimiento de la Nueva Cultura del Cuatro de Mayo, novelista, crítico y teórico literario, dirigió la revista Revista de Novelas Cortas, plataforma clave de la nueva literatura. Su novela monumental Medianoche estableció el paradigma de la novela realista de análisis social. Después de 1949 fue el primer ministro de Cultura. El Premio Literario Mao Dun fue creado en 1981 por la Asociación de Escritores de China para impulsar la creación literaria.

Maestro del lenguaje literario coloquial, sus obras principales son Cuatro Generaciones Bajo un Mismo Techo, El chófer Xiangzi y la obra de teatro La Casa de Té.
Cao Yu (1910‑1996), nacido Wan Jiabao con origen familiar en Qianjiang, Hubei, es el gran maestro fundador del teatro hablado moderno chino. Sus obras teatrales hitos son Tormenta, Amanecer, El desierto y Hombre de Pekín. Después de 1949 ocupó puestos directivos en instituciones dramáticas y formó generaciones de talentos teatrales para China.
El conjunto de sellos adopta la pintura tradicional china de tinta y aguada combinada con técnicas figurativas occidentales. Los retratos reproducen el carácter distintivo de cada escritor mediante matices de tinta. Las tintas especiales crean un tono retro y elegante. Los fondos muestran fragmentos de las obras representativas de cada autor.

لو شون (1881‑1936) اسم الميلاد تشو شو رين، الاسم اللطيف يو تساي، من شاو شينغ تشيجيانغ. هو أديب ومفكر وثائر صيني حديث. درس في اليابان عام 1902 ثم ترك الطب من أجل الأدب. هو مؤسس الأدب الصيني الحديث، تتميز مؤلفاته بروح نقدية قوية واهتمام إنساني عميق، تشمل المقالات والروايات والنثر والترجمات بما يقارب عشرة ملايين حرف، وأثرت بعمق في الثقافة الصينية بعد حركة الرابع من مايو.
قوو موو روا (1892‑1978) اسم الميلاد قوو كاي تشن، الاسم اللطيف دينغ تانغ، ولد في شاوان ليشان سيتشوان. هو عبقري ثقافي موسوعي، أديب وشاعر ومترجم. انتُخب رئيس الاتحاد الوطني للآداب والفنون عام 1949، وشغل مناصب رسمية رفيعة لاحقًا. أسس الشعر الصيني الجديد بمؤلفه «الإلهة»، كما كان رائد الدراما التاريخية الحديثة الممثلة بمسرحية «كيو يوان».
ماو دون (1896‑1981) اسم الميلاد شين ده هونغ، الاسم اللطيف يان بينغ، من تونغ شيانغ تشيجيانغ. رائد حركة الثقافة الجديدة للرابع من مايو، روائي وناقد ونظري أدبي، أشرف على مجلة «مجلة القصص القصيرة» وهي منصّة رئيسية للأدب الجديد. روايته العلامة «منتصف الليل» وضعت نموذج الرواية الواقعية التحليلية الاجتماعية. بعد عام 1949 شغل منصب أول وزير للثقافة. أنشأت رابطة الكتاب الصينيين جائزة ماو دون الأدبية عام 1981 لتشجيع الإبداع الأدبي.
با جين (1904‑2005) اسم الميلاد لي ياو تانغ، الاسم اللطيف في غان، من تشنغ دو سيتشوان، أديب ومترجم وناشر حديث. شغل مناصب هامة في المنظمات الأدبية الوطنية، وحصل على لقب فخري «كاتب الشعب» من مجلس الدولة في نوفمبر عام 2003. من أعماله الرئيسية «ثلاثية الحب»، «ثلاثية العاصفة»، «تأملات» و«ليالٍ باردة».
لاو شيه (1899‑1966) من أعراق المانشو، اسم الميلاد شو تشينغ تشون، الاسم اللطيف شي يو، من بكين، روائي وكاتب مسرحي. هو أول كاتب صيني يحصل على لقب «فنان الشعب» بعد تأسيس الصين الجديدة. أستاذ اللغة الأدبية العامية، أعماله الكبرى: «أربعة أجيال تحت سقف واحد»، «السائق شيانغ تزي» ومسرحية «بيت الشاي».
تساو يو (1910‑1996) اسم الميلاد وان جيا باو، أصل عائلته من تشيان جيانغ هوبي، هو الأب المؤسس للدراما الناطقة الصينية الحديثة. مسرحياته العلامة: «العاصفة الرعدية»، «شروق الشمس»، «البرية» و«رجل بكين». بعد عام 1949 شغل مناصب قيادية في المؤسسات الدرامية، وأعد أجيالًا من المواهب المسرحية للصين.
