Background
The painting “Spring Outing”, which has been kept in the Liaoning Provincial Museum, was painted by Zhao Ji, an emperor of the Song Dynasty who imitated the works by Zhang Xuan of the Tang Dynasty. Through the treasure painting, which has been handed down from ancient times, one can see Zhao’s contribution to and his exquisite workmanship in learning from predecessors and imitating well-known painting.

The painting “Spring Outing”reflected the hunting by a rich lady, the wife of Guo Guo, a sister of the highest-ranking imperial concubine Yang Yuhuan in the Tang Dynasty, during a beautiful spring season. The whole painting did not have any scene to serve as a contrast, and it displayed the grand occasion of talking and laughing of the charming spring. People, especially their facial expression, in the painting were described so graceful and in detail that everyone had the makings of beauty, charming, sedateness, delicacy with plump figure, and had a dignified bearing. The horses that carried the people in the painting were healthy and strong, and in harmony with the atmosphere. The painting showed the peculiarity in composition, modeling, color and line, and reproduced, the luxurious court life. the painting was a true record of the social life in those days.

背景介绍：
杨贵妃得宠于唐玄宗以后，因怀念姐姐，请求唐玄宗将她的三个姐姐一起迎入京师。唐玄宗称杨贵妃的三个姐姐为姨，并赐以住宅，天宝初年分封她们三人为国夫人，分别为虢国夫人、韩国夫人和秦国夫人。

《虢国夫人游春图》主要描绘了唐天宝年间唐玄宗的宠妃杨玉环的姐姐虢国夫人和秦国夫人一行春天出游的情景。作品重人物内心刻划，通过劲细的线描和色调的敷设，浓艳而不失其秀雅，精工而不板滞。全画构图疏密有致，错落自然。人与马的动势舒缓从容，正应游春主题。画家不着背景，只以湿笔点出斑斑草色以突出人物，意境空潆清新。图中用线纤细，圆润秀劲，在劲力中透着妩媚。设色典雅富丽，具装饰意味，格调活泼明快。画面上洋溢着雍容、自信、乐观的盛唐风貌。

《虢国夫人游春图》原本是唐代大画家张萱的一幅宫廷名画，属传世之作，当是国宝。原作已失。此图为宋摹本为绢本，设色，纵51.8厘米，横148厘米。摹本犹存盛唐风貌。此图原作曾藏宣和内府，由画院高手摹装。在两宋时为史弥远、贾似道收藏，后经台州榷场流入金内府，金章宗完颜琼在卷前隔水题签，指为宋徽宗赵佶所摹。见《庚子销夏录》，《墨缘汇观》，《石渠宝笈续编》诸书著录。为流传有绪的唐宋名迹中稀有瑰宝之一。现辽宁省博物馆收藏。

张萱，生卒年不详，京兆(今陕西西安)人，唐代开元天宝间享有盛名的杰出画家。在当时“唐尚新题”风气的影响下，画家采取现实生活中有典型意义的题材，创作出主题如此突出的杰作，与大诗人杜甫的《丽人行》史诗交相辉映，有其深远历史意义。玄宗开元十一年(723)，与杨畀、杨宁同任史馆画直。工画人物，擅绘贵族妇女、婴儿、鞍马，名冠当时，与周昉不相上下。所画妇女，惯用朱色晕染耳根，为其特色;又善以点簇笔法构写亭台、树木、花鸟等宫苑景物。传世作品有《捣练图》、《虢国夫人游春图》。

1995年5月23日，为了反映悠久灿烂的中国绘画艺术，邮电部发行了《中国绘画•唐•虢国夫人游春图》特种邮票，全套2枚。
