On April 24,1970,”Long March I” carrier rocket successfully sent “East Is Red I” satellites into orbit, making China one of the few countries in the world to have the capability of deploying multiple satellites with a single rocket. On February 8 1994, the new type carrier rocket “Long March III”, which has a payload of 3.2 tons, was successfully launched. On May 12 1997, “Long March III” launched “East Is Red III” Communications satellite, signifying a new height in China’s communications satellite technology.

20世纪50年代末，随着苏联第一颗人造卫星的发射成功，人类活动的领域终于从陆地、海洋、天空扩展到地球外层空间。航天技术的发展，为人类的生活带来了全新的景象。航天技术可以高质量、高效益地解决人类生活中的许多问题，可以代替常规手段为人类创造奇迹。

6-1 为“乐声环宇”。画面中无垠的宇宙星际上方，是中国在1970年发射的第一颗人造卫星—-东方红一号。
6-2 为“天外归来”。画面描绘了中国第一次控制卫星返回地面的情景。
6-3 为“雷震海天”。表现的是1982年10月，我国自水下向预定海域发射运载火箭的壮观景象。平静的大海上，突然滚雷般的轰鸣声起，火箭冲出水面，飞向预定海域，箭尾喷射出金黄色的烈焰。海面浓烟滚滚，白雾腾腾。
6-4 为“腾飞万里”。它表现的是1984年4月，我国发射的第一颗地球同步通信卫星离地飞升的景象。画面上，火箭拖着桔红色的火尾，徐徐离开发射台，飞向静止轨道。背景上，红霞满天，一轮金色的太阳冉冉而升，衬托出火箭腾飞时的壮观场面，也寓意中国航天事业发展的广阔前景。
6-5 为“天地同音”。它描画的是卫星的地面接收站。
6-6 为“玉宇明灯”。它表现的是1984年4月发射的同步通信卫星的运行状况。这套邮票除着重于航天器本身刻划外，还注重对环境的渲染，如广阔的宇宙空间、通红的朝霞、蔚蓝的天空等等，使主体和背景在对比、映衬中分别强调出来，获得一种气势磅礴、空旷渺远的艺术效果。
