为适应航空邮政业务的需要，中国人民邮政于1951年5月1日发行了第一套航空邮票。航空邮票没有志号，面值均为各类航空邮政资费，主要用于航空邮件贴用。
本套航空邮票共5枚，面值分别为1000元、3000元、5000元、10000元、30000元。邮票图案均为天坛和飞机，主要标明这是一套航空邮票，各枚图案刷色不同。
