本套邮票是第一枚以文字为图案的邮票。第一枚“社会主义建设总路线”，这枚邮票的主图是周恩来的亲笔题词：“鼓足干劲，力争上游，多快好省地建设社会主义”19个大字，以此为中心，上边印有全国工业交通展览会会徽，下面印有厂房、显微镜等图样，以作装饰。这是新中国第一枚以文字为主图案的邮票。

全国工业交通展览会于1958年10月在北京的苏联展览馆（现名北京展览馆）举行。这次展览会共有冶金、机械、原子能、地质、石油、煤炭、电力、化学、森林、轻工、纺织、建筑工程和铁道、交通、邮电等15个展览馆。在这次展览会上，用实物和图片展现了中华人民共和国成立九年来，在工业交通建设方面所取得的成就。
